Sometimes I'm asked why I recommended passion-based businesses.
Well...here's an entrepreneurial truth that gets hard to swallow at times:
- Starting a business ain't easy.
- And despite what they tell you, all of your waking days won't be filled with honey and roses and waking up to hear the beautiful whistle of the sparrow.
Starting a business is hard, and sometimes be-grudging work.
There will be days when you wonder if it's all worth it.
Getting your idea to start your small business to work involves a lot of tweaking to make it work.
There will be days when you look up from amidst all the things that are going wrong...and wonder what it was that you got yourself into.
And it's during these days when you will need something to hold on to - something that will help you make sense out of whether it's worth it for you to keep moving your business dreams forward.
And oftentimes, what I've found is that your something is often tied to knowing that what you are doing will matter in the lives of your targeted market niche.
When trying to get your idea to start your own small business off the ground, take the Significance Test.
Ask yourself if what you are doing will actually make a true difference in the lives of your targeted market niche.
If, at the end of the day, you come to terms with the fact that your business does matter, then you've got a little work to do.
You've got to roll up your sleeves and evaluate what you need to do to make your idea to start a small business real.
You've got to look at your business ideas - and all of the internal and external realities that they face, and proactively design your business to make the difference that you intend for it to make.
